Refuse to be Passive

The Not So Secret Recipe

In Food on September 1, 2009 at 8:53 pm

I love people who have secret recipes. They refuse to share them with even their closest friends. The truly funny part is, usually they were published in a magazine or some such thing a few years ago, and they just happen to be the only person who bothered to save the recipe.
Exhibit A: A co-worker brought Banana Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake to work today. It was delicious. But even before I could ask for the recipe, she told me that her friend had sworn her to secrecy. I smiled, said I understood, went back to my office, did a brief web search, and found exactly the cake she’d made (or mighty close to it, including pictures). Secret recipes are rarely secrets anymore. The internet has made them a thing of the past. And by the way, this recipe was printed in Bon Appetite in 2003. Bon Appetite!
